Grocery day

I always go to the same grocery store. It's close, it's supposed to be cheap, and typically I can find whatever I need. Everyone knows me there. I live out in the country so going somewhere that people actually know my family and carry on a conversation with me is just as important as being able to find organic canned tomatoes, ya know? It's where I hang.

But today....I went to Wal Mart.

Race and I used to HAVE to shop at Wal mart. During the...shall we say..the lean years(to be kind)? I was so happy when my grocery shopping could branch out a little bit. I could then peruse specialty and gourmet sections, and see foods from European countries. And my produce no longer all came from Argentina. And why is it that Wal Mart is so full of booger pickers?? You know what I'm talking about. You've seen it. ANd since when did the door "greeter" become a bitter, angry(ANGRY!), middle aged woman?

But today I went to Wal mart. And I saved money. Like....a considerable amount of money. Like a manicure's worth of money. Or an expensive shampoo's worth of money. This could be serious.

Whatever you spend the $$ on....dough is dough.

So...Welcome to Wal Mart, shoppers!

Have you started doing anything differently to save money recently?

Cheers!
Melissa

I'm a regular down at the Walmart. You'll learn. The things you learned back in the "lean years" will come back to you. No eye contact with the Greeters, minimal interaction with fellow shoppers, harden yourself to the onslaught of booger pickers, eyes on the grocery list. Just hang in there. ROFL!!! :0D

I live in the land of wal-mart. The first walton's 5&dime is a stones throw away. I've never stepped foot in a Kroger, Whole Foods, or Piggly Wiggly. Just wal-mart...and Sam's. We are buckling down moola-wise..we're moving to a more expensive home, but "cutting off the fat" to accomidate it. It's all great value for now baby! But we luckily still have the sweet old man greeter that gives Princess & her teddy bear a sticker. But we also have shareholders once a year. Nightmare!~There ARE a lot of nosepickers...very observant. And thanks so much for the image...icky! icks!

We also frequent Walmart on a regular basis. But we've been in many Walmarts and ours is one of the nicest in comparison. You can't beat them...even if someone else has a better price, you just tell the cashier and they'll match it. I've even had cashiers point that out to me while I was in line. The variety isn't what the pricey stores offer, but the price is right.

I can't help it, I love Martin's Grocery Store. I can carry my scanner around with me, adding up my total as I go, and bag my own groceries as I shop. I loath Wal-mart. It's too crowded and I think it's a game with people to see how many times they can run you down with their cart. Martin's also has gas pumps and for every $100 you spend you get $.10 off a gallon of gas, right now I am up to $.40 off and I will be hitting them to fill up before we leave for my parents for Thanksgiving.

I love Wal-Mart, but they just aren't in Chicago (big union issue in a very union kind of town) So I hit Target when I can and save a few bucks. It's ironic that you asked about saving money. I posted a story today about how that backfired on me.... We're pretty low-key as it is, so we're staying at cruising altitude, I guess!

=-)

I've been on a Wal-Mart strike for months. It's a lot harder on the budget but the crappy customer service, cheap products (quality - not price), and way everyone else is having to close in town finally pissed me off enough to give them the cold shoulder. I used to be a Faithful Wal-Mart shopper though and really miss the deals. :-(

I used to be a Faithful Wal-Mart shopper until a few months back when the crappy service (no one ever seems happy to work there or to do their job), the cheap products (quality wise), & way they're monopolizing the retail market here FINALLY pissed me off enough to stop shopping there. It hurts a bit financially but I feel better about it. I do miss the deals though. :0(

I just got back from our wal-mart and feel like I need a shower!! Ours is big and has everything, but the people are disgusting and MEAN!! I had a couple of gift cards though and of course the prices were awesome. But I prefer my Costco monthly marathon.

Other ways I'm cutting back, pound cake. Yep! A LOT of people are getting homemade pound cake for Christmas this year :)
