I started this blog to keep the husband/father of this happy home up to speed with what goes on here while he is off making the world a safer place. We will refer to him as "Race" (You know..Race Bannon... from Johnny Quest?). We are Christian in our religion, and conservative, in our politics. We home school our guinea pigs,-er- I mean , our kids. Our life is not "the norm", but, with Divine Grace, we're makin' it work, and usually having a good time in the process!

I wanted to thank everyone for their prayers. I truly felt "prayed for" on Friday. I think that it is the only thing that got me through that day. Hearing that news was just such a blow. I was in a daze the entire day, like I just couldn't wrap my brain around it. It seems like we are under attack here. So many other things cropping up right now like flames licking at our heels. But I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your prayers. And, while I can't go into any details, things with Race's situation are improving. I still haven't said anything to the kids because we just aren't sure how things will play out.
Austin had an AWESOME time at scouts. They camped all weekend. It got down to 35 degrees! But, thankfully he was prepared. Race had taught him a long time ago what to bring, and how to pack it. I didn't help him at all. He was so squared away! He and one of his buddies were in charge of lunch and dinner, which I find hysterical! But apparently they did a fine job and got compliments on their cooking!
Savannah and Jack had a great time going to the movies with Aunt Thomasina. They are still talking about it.
Church was wonderful today. I am so happy that we found this church. I truly love it.
I don't have a lot to add here tonight, because I guess I just don't have it in me, ya know? But thanks so much for the kind words and the prayers. It means so much to me. We are doing fine and hanging in there. And like I said, I have not lost my perspective on this. There are worse calls that a wife can get, for sure. But still it is dissapointing. And we are handling it, and with God's grace we will come out on the other side.
G'night,
melissa

I'm so glad the kids all had a good weekend and that church was wonderful.
Keep hanging in there!
Still praying hard for y'all!
Grace does amazing things - both in the giving and the receiving. I'm glad to hear God sent you plenty of Grace this weekend.
I *love* the pictures of Austin! He's such a neat kid. Er, young man. So, what did he cook for the camping trip? I love camping food ideas! ;-)
Enjoy a productive, blessed week. Call if you need me. I'll be on my cell phone.

Melissa, You will be in my prayers! Your children are just beautiful!
I'm so glad things are improving in Race's situation. I'm still praying SO HARD!! I just can't wait until he gets home. (And I'm just his mother-in-law.) I can't even begin to imagine being you in this situation!
Looks like Austin really paid attention when Race taught him how to pack for a camping trip. I'm glad he stayed warm. He just looks so all grown up in that picture.
I don't think the kids will ever get too old to have a good time with Aunt Thomasina. She always seems to find something fun to do with them.
Will be so glad to see you all.
Love, Mom
Melissa, I'm still praying for all of you. I look at the pictures of your Austin and I can't imagine my little boy being that big. And yet, he's getting there. I hope they grow up to be as well-rounded and just plain neat as yours.
Please write, call, msg - whatever you have if you ever need anything. Geo's schedule gets switched sometimes with little to no notice but it's only a matter of days and it still sends me into a depression. So, on a small scale I understand.
Many hugs to you on passing the time quickly and a quick and happy homecoming!
