Something in the air......

It seems that with the kids' lack o' planned activities, that my old, reclusive, homemaking side is coming back out.
With Austin driving himself (and sometimes his siblings) to the few organized activities that we are currently strapped to, I am finding myself at home much ,more than I have been over the past 2 years.

It feels gooooooooood......

I may be a recluse. And my Piperlime booties are certainly not in fear of being worn out this season, but "HEL-looooo Small Country Town Martha Stewart" !!

Dude- I am totally getting back in touch with my domestic side.

I had forgotten how much I LOVE to cook. And bake. And ....BE HOME.

I love it.

My kitchen is clean.

But not the kind of clean that smells like bleach.

The kind of clean that shows everything in it's place and smells of homemade oatmeal rasin cookies.

I have been baking bread and hanging laundry out on the line. Just today I made a Fresh Apple Cake with some of the apples that we brought home from the orchard the other day.

I forgot that I could actually do this stuff. I used to do it all the time. EVERYTHING was from scratch as the kids were growing up. We were broke. Always.. And I learned what it meant to stretch a dollar.

One of the things that we did this year was to buy half a cow from a grass fed supplier. It was at a great price, and hopefully Race will be able to add a deer or 2 to that freezer, and we're SET. It feels good to have a freezer full of meat.

I was also able to off set our veggies this year with our garden. I have lots of green beans in the freezer as well, as well as some broccoli, and all the stalks that we can use for Cream of Broccoli soup. I also planted some lettuce and spinach for a fall crop, and I am hoping that I didn't wait too late.

So, yeah......the cooking, the baking, the homemaking. All good.

I can hear your question, " But what about working out, Melissa? ", you ask.

"WHEN are you finding the time??"

Well..................

I'm in a bit of a funk.
It's not that I've given it up.

It's just that I'm not that INTO it.

I'm DOING it......but not well.
And my heart just isn't there right now.

There's something in the air.........

It wispers to me.............

"Winter is coming............Haaarrrrrrrd winter................Winter is coming................Must...................Save...............Fat."

I can't shake it, man.

So I cook. I bake. I bake. I cook.

It's instinctual, or something.

That layer of fat.

I mean, c'mon.......it's big sweater season ,right?

Is it just me?

I'm off to have a slice of Fresh Apple Cake.
Cheers!
Melissa

Oh my gosh I just scared my poor dear husband sitting next to me with my appropriate "spit take" while reading the part about storing the fat...HILARIOUS!!!! Sigh...I think that any fat YOU store, it'll all fall in all the right places, and that is why I hate you *wink*

I love this time of year, I can already smell the turkey cooking for Thanksgiving. I also love to bake and I haven't been making the time to do it lately. Isn't it nice to have the child that is old enough to drive the others around? I loved it when that happened to us, you don't realize just how much time you have been spending on the road. Sometimes I feel like the house belongs to the cat and dog and we just go visit every once in a while.

C'mon over Urban Mom! I am your enabler.

Blessedutopia- heh...um..NO it DOESN'T all fall in the right places. Unless the right place is around my gut. ;-)

Bridget- LOL about the cat and the dog! All that football is SO time consuming isn't it? But you're right...Thanksgiving is coming!

Sounds good to me! My house isn't any cleaner than usual, but I have been baking/cooking more. Our kitchen gets Cold this time of year, and the oven heats it up so nicely!
