Running, Baseball, Grandparents and other stuff..

Race made it home yesterday afternoon, after being gone all week. Stress level high. Within 10 minutes, we were out the door, going for a run. I can't believe that I made it! It was 2 and a quarter miles. How about that? Now, I know for those of you who are "runners", that's no big deal, but for me? Well, that's a record. And for Race it is a big stress reliever. We are supposed to go to a local stadium today. The kids are to bring their bikes, and race and I are supposed to "walk" the steps. He is still sleeping, so lets just hope he forgets about all of that today!

We took the grandparents to see a local minor league baseball game last night. It rained. But we all got up under the covered part of the stadium, and they were real troopers about waiting it out. The kids had a blast running around. While we waited round, we ate hot dogs and talked, and enjoyed ourselves. They called the game, so we may head back over there tonight to see if we can watch a WHOLE game this time!

My Mom and Dad came for a quick visit on their way south yesterday. Dad immediately swept Austin out the door to hit the baseball field to go and practice. There was no one else on the field, and Thomasina got some awesome pictures. These will be priceless for me, I can assure you. (As an aside, I didn't know that Dad had such a wind-up!). Mom brought me some gardening books, and we walked around my house looking at all of the changes that I am trying to make outside. They took us all out to lunch at a local Italian rest. . We got to sit down with BOTH sets of grandparents, and that doesn't happen too often!

I am currently reading "Keep a Quiet heart" by Elizabeth Elliott. And Oh my, do I ever need to keep a quiet heart. This is a wonderful book. As always, the author shoots straight. She is tough minded, but tender hearted and exploding with wisdom.

Lastly, Jackson announced , while riding in the car the other day, "Mom, I have decided that I will never marry". "Oh? Really?" And then he continued, "Coach T was telling us that he used to love seafood, and then he got married, and his wife didn't like it, and he NEVER gets to eat it anymore! (Then, gravely), That's not gonna happen to me."
Now, I know this coach and his wife very well, and I can hardly wait to tell them that they single handedly turned my boy against marriage. I don't know what sort of life application Coach T was trying to make........But that probably wasn't it! Too funny.

When I got up this morning, I had 2 messages from Dy on my phone, so I need to give her a call. They are somewhere in their travels southward. I can't wait to hear how it's all going for them. If you are not familiar with Dy's story, check her out over at Classical Adventures on my sidebar. She is "good people", and a very talented writer.

Have a great weekend. The rain makes everything grow!

I'm so proud of you! Two and a quarter miles! That would be a record for most of the people I know. I can walk that far, but I couldn't run an eighth of a mile. We really enjoyed having lunch with you and the kids and Andree'and Frank and Thomasina on Friday. Your Daddy really enjoys playing baseball with Austin, and Thomasina really got some good pictures of them. They are priceless to me, too. MAN! DOES JACKSON HAVE SOME SUPRISES AHEAD FOR HIM!!! I saw Savannah's first attempt at water-colors. She is so talented! And she's only eleven!"Art By Savannah" 'gonna be big one of these days. Love, Mom

You are so good! Look at you go! Man, I'd have been whining by the time we hit the first tree and flat on my face within a half mile. That's probably why you're a size two and I'm... um, not.

Thank you so much for the chat the other day- it felt good to just connect and laugh and hear about your awesome kids. You are doing a great job of keeping not just a quiet heart, but a joyful heart. I'm proud of you.

James got his letter in the mail. BOY, was he excited! AND a picture of a snake. Should have seen his face when I told him we could meet in TN and go camping with y'all sometime. So cute. I'll let you know when to keep an eye on the mail again. :-)
