Well, sometimes, you just sit down to type, and nothing good will come out. It all sounds bitter, or whiney, or ungrateful. That's what happened to me over the weekend. Race and I had hit "survival mode". We were just putting one foot in front of the other trying to get by. The job is taking it's toll. We are ready for change, but so far, that opportunity is still in hiding. So, we were going along. Just making it. And then, through God's wonderful mercy, and through the prayers of others (you know who you are ;-)), we were blessed with a day like yesterday. A day so special that it is difficult to put into words. We saw a glimpse of the real RACE yesterday. We got far enough up into the mountains, away from EVERYONE and EVERYTHING that reality began to come back into focus, and all of the dry ,hard crust from the city where he works, began to crack and fall off. It was a great day from start to finish.
After our trek to the mountains, hiking and picnicing, we came home so that Savannah could go to Aunt Thomasina's for her art lesson, and the boys could get to Martial Arts and Jiu Jitsu. One of the great surprises for the boys was that Race took the adult Jiu Jitsu class with Austin yesterday. Race has been trained in the basics from one of his former jobs, so he was LOVING this class. The boys were REALLY proud. What a cool dad. When we got home, all of the men folk in our home went to baseball practice, and I went out to Thomasina's to pick up Savannah. I got to sit awhile and listen to Savannah share about her time with Aunt Thomasina, while Thom made the final preparations on a big pot of soup that she was making. For those who have never had the pleasure of tasting Thomasina's soups, you have my sympathy. This woman makes the BEST soups in the world. So, I got to sit and visit and eat her delicious home made soup, with a seafood salad ( she just whipped that right up), on a toasted whole wheat bagel. Lovely.
We ended the evening watching the last few minutes of the Amazing Race all together. Yeah, it was a great day from start to finish. We needed that. Race needed that. The pictures are below.
Enjoy the beautiful weather! I am going to catch up on some blog reading and emails, and then we are headed outside.

Oh, to be in the mountains! I would love to take a tent and camp but couldn't get off the ground. I went on one of those whit-water trips and was it ever fun. He was very good.Jackson looks like icecles are going to drop off his finger nails. Was that at Crab Tree?
What a great day! Hiking and picnicking as a family. And a garter snake, to boot. That's what I'm talkin about (Kip).
Race IS a totally cool Dad. I mean, how many Dad's go out and "save the world" as a job and then come home to join his son for Jiu Jitsu lessons and baseball practice? Seriously!
Oh, I am so thankful you had a day like that. Sometimes they are just what we need to rejuvenate us for diving back in and wading through (b/c you know, at the other end, is a wonderful change just waiting for you!) What a blessing.
These pictures are phenomenal! WOW! What fun, and how cool. Love that picture, and ok, you must, simply *must* find the original photo! How cool would that be to put in a double frame for Race to take to work?? Huh? Very. Trust me.
It's so good to have you back and blogging over morning coffee. :-)

I'll have to get the book to read while I'm in recouperating from surgery. The movie looked like it would be funny but I'll take your word for it. you were talking about a picture, I remember a favorite that you have of Race and Waylin and him at Crab Tree with his arm around his puppy. Too Cute!
