We had a good weekend, but it was way too short! I really, really, really was not ready for Race to leave yet. He will come home again some time this week, and then he will begin preparations for another long trip on the other side of the globe. We miss him so much. We are tossing around the idea of trying to meet him in Europe in between trips. Planning the logistics and timing of these things is SOoo hard because of the unpredictable nature of the job. In other words, the kids and I could find ourselves sitting in airport somewhere in Europe getting a call from Race saying that the plans have changed and he can't make it. I'm a big girl, though right? I could do that couldn't I??? Hmmm. I don't know. (How will we ever win the Amazing Race, if I can't get around, ya know?)
We had an interesting snake incident. I was hauling some brush over to a pile that we had made a few days ago in the woods. Just as I was about to add to the pile, I hear something squealling loudly. I start looking, but can't see a thing. It's loud. It's right THERE, but I can't see it. To make a long story short- a bit later, I take Jack down to see if he can see anything. I squat down to show him exactly where I was when I heard the small animal. I stand up, move back, and see that less than 12 inches above my back, where I was bent down, was an enormous black snake, stretched out on some small branches, that were bending under his weight. How I did not knock into him when I stood up, I have no idea. He was lying in the sun trying to digest the large meal that I had so rudely interrupted before. (Judging from the size, and the noise, probably a rabbit). Yikes. I am o.k with black snakes as long as I know where they are. I really don't think I'd want one surprising me by becoming a head ornament! Needless to say, Jack was mesmerized and watched him until he headed deeper into the woods.
Savannah had her first dress rehearsal for the Petrushka ballet. I am so impressed. We are really looking forward to seeing this on stage. Very professionally done. And Stravinsky's music is just so beautiful.
Race and the boys, literally played baseball all weekend. They had a blast. They needed that. Race could not be more proud of Austin, and how well he is playing. And Jack is coming along right after him. Race could just pop!
We are going to try to hit the library today, and then Savannah has a dance class later this evening. As I was gathering our basket of library books, I noticed a title that had escaped me at the checkout. Jack had apparently picked up a large picture book entitled "Brain Surgery for Beginners". Yeah. O.K.
Prayers going out for mom, and for Dy's little boy James. Here's hoping that everyone gets some good news this week!
Gotta run,
Melissa

Brain Surgery for Beginners?!?!? I am literally ROFL. That's one way to start up a cottage industry, eh?
Thank you for sharing all the wonderful news- ballet, nature, and great kids.
I'll be praying for Race's travels and time together as a family.
Thanks for the prayers for James. He just got up (yeah, ten thirty- gotta love Benadryl, eh?) and we are going to go find the smelly lady with the dreds to see if she can direct us to "a guy who knows stuff". I'll let ya know how it goes.

Glad you guys had a great weekend! I wish soo bad we could make it down for Savannah's ballet. I have not gotten the final word yet, but we may be babysitting for Camm that weekend.
Glad the boys and Race had fun playing ball. I am sure Race ejoyed it more than anybody.
Hope you guys have a great week!
I'm so glad you guys had a good weekend with Race. I know you all needed it!
As for traveling alone with the kids--I wouldn't risk it. You'd best take me along, just in case.LOL!!
Seriously,of course you could handle it by yourself. The kids are old enough now and what an incredible adventure you would all get to experience!
I can't wait to see Savannah's big debut!
