Thank-you, thank-you Laney, for getting what I meant about the "work sheet scholars". That's one of the things that I love about classical home schooling. No work sheets, no fill-in-the blanks, no multiple choice, no matching. Ya gotta write it out......... not copy it...write it out. Ya gotta discuss it. When you can write about it and discuss it.....it's YOURS. You learn to THINK. It is my opinion that the currently accepted U.S. educational method of fill the bucket, spit it back for the test, then forget it forever, is one of the greatest disservices that we push on students today. (Now, don't go emailing me, the kids HAVE done multiple choice before..)

Race had a Very Important Interview today. This something that we have been praying about for some time. It went very well. No idea what this will mean for us in the future, but it all looks positive.

We are looking forward to the weekend. Race got some time off! I'm not sure what we will do, if anything, but it will be great to be together for a bit. We were talking about camping, so maybe that will materialize. I MUST get some pictures!

That's it for me tonight. I'm beat.
Y'aal have a good weekend!
Melissa

In graduate school I did a lot of research of Charlotte Mason and her method of schooling. She would absolutely die if she saw some of what goes on in schools today. The college I went to for my undergraduate work is very "anti-worksheet." You are so right--teaching them to THINK prepares them for more than a test--it prepares them fo life. The "powers that be" in the school systems and state departments of public instruction fail to see life beyond an end-of-grade test.

Hope all goes well with Race's new opportunity.

BTW, did you get my gargantuan email last week and a couple with photos? Just making sure you still have the same email address.

Enjoy your family time! Hope Race will get to go with you to EI next week.

Well, actually, Charlotte Mason did die, but from natural causes! (HaHa!)

You are so right about the school systems today. They are so focused on the "SOLs" and having to be "acredited" that I think they have lost sight of the whole picture. Go into McDonald's or anywhere for that matter and the teenagers working there can't even make change anymore unless the register tells them what to give. My kids are in public schools and they don't even check homework anymore, they don't care if it's right, they get credit for doing it. There is definitely something wrong with this picture.
I hope everything goes well with Race.
Have a great weekend.

What? What? There's a birthday?!?!? Hmmm...

ENJOY the weekend! Have fun! Light stuff on fire. Zorak made a Wal-Mart run for me last night: creamer and ammo (his 'n hers). *sigh* I am so. in. love. with that man. So I'm wishing you the same warm fuzzies this weekend. :-)

You do know, don't ya, that the NEA and the Unions-That-Be aren't in it to produce thinking, productive Citizens... yeah, you know that. That's why you do what you do. That's why we adore you.

have a great weekend,
Dy
