I keep forgetting to remind everyone to please!Vote for Miss Pinky There are only a few days left!! Clueless? Read Here and Here And now back to our regularly scheduled blog..
We got back into school full swing this week. You know........you really have to. I mean you can't let em' go too long, or the first thing ya know, they're dumber than coal buckets.
One of my charges actually tried to convince me of this very thing. When faced with an entire sheet of math problems, he gave an oscar winning performance portraying a young boy whose brain had been sucked from his body whie he slept. But, alas, with CALM encouragement (I'm coming off a holiday, remember) and a few hershey's chocolates, the old gray matter returned and before you knew it, we were happily plugging along.
The weather has been so nice here, that we've actually done quite a bit outside.
The boys TORE UP the batting cages yesterday.
Savannah has been working on a nature journal in the form of "The Diary of an Edwardian Lady". The entries that she's done so far are amazing.
The fort that Jack has been working on FOREVER, is finally taking shape. He has used up every bit of old scrap wood and vinyl we've had laying around the place. So...win-win. I'll get some pictures after the final touches have been applied.
There has been a LOT of music in the house lately. Everyone has ipods and ipod speakers and things to play ipods over OTHER speakers and there are drums and a keyboard and a kareoke machine. So...ya know....it's loud here. Really loud. But man, oh man do they dig their music. Oh- and speaking of music-here's a weird, twighlight zone moment for ya:
We were in a dollar store the other day and the kids had all dispersed to go their different ways. I was perusing the picture frames when one of my "Blast-from-the-past" songs came on the radio."Sweet!...it's Cameo's Word-up!" I immediately revert back to my highschool years and start singin' along. Not missin' a beat. "Yo pretty ladies around the world"..... I was singing to myself, really getting into it, when all of a sudden I turn the corner and run smack into Austin.
AND HE'S SINGING THE SONG!!!!
We were both staring at each other singing..."Wave your hands in the air like you don't care..glide by the people as they stop to look and stare".
And then simultaneously we blurt out, "How do YOU know that song!!???"
It was weird man. Really weird.
If I told him the story and me and my best friend, who-shall-remain-nameless-Janelle,rapping on a street corner at Beach Week....well... he's probably never look at me the same again. And it might severely hinder my ability to discipline him, which slips a little more with each inch that he towers over me.
Oh- and please don't tell my dad about that Beach Week thing. He never really could get used to the fact that his daughter, whom he had spent a bajillion dollars on in the form of private school, charm school, ballet class, and etiquett training, really wanted to be a rapper for awhile.
So, let's not bring up those painful memories, shall we?
G'night,
Melissa
P.S.-glad you're back Bridg, you've been missed

Here's a "do you remember" moment: Do you remember you and Janelle telling a story about a man who climbed into your car uninvited...and somehow you had tape recorded the event? (Tape recording alone ages us.)
Anyway...I think it's hilarious that Austin knew that song, too! What a surreal moment!
And Bridget is back? Yea! I'm heading there next!!!
I remember that song!!! I am so old, sniff, sniff. There is alot of music constantly going on in this house also but that is another post.
Ah, yes! The musical works of Cameo, they hit the big time when I was in 5th grade! I had their single (remember singles???). Anyone remember the "B" side?? No?? It was a song called "Candy". Man, I loved that tape, then my walk-man ate it.
ROFL My kids know the words to "Ice, Ice, Baby" by Vanilla Ice - it scares me.
I can picture you and Austin - toooooooooo funny!!!
