Guess What I woke up to?

Oh, never mind, just quit guessin' cause you're never gonna get it. I kept the windows up last night because it was so cool. Cool air and a down comforter...now there's some good sleepin', KWIM? Anyway, this morning, bright and early BEFORE my alarm went off I was jolted from a deep slumber by the gut wrenching, overwhelming stench of .....a skunk! A pole cat! Welllll Good Mornin' to me! Thankfully, he was just passing by in the woods and hadn't actually sprayed anything in our vicinity. But the nice cool breeze blew his aroma straight into my bedroom which faces the back of the house.

We had a good day today. We knocked out all of our lessons by 2, and then we met Thom at the health food store in town to stock up on vitamins and other goodies. Then the kids and I went to Barnes and Noble, got coffee and drinks and perused all of the cool Narnia stuff thats out right now.

Savannah had her modern class tonight, so I took a few books to keep me busy while she danced. I have just started "Atlas Shrugged",by Ayn Rand, but I'm not far enough along to have any opinion of it yet. I AM hooked, though. And at night we are reading King Arthur aloud. I have a study guide for the book, that I got from Veritas Press, which I am keeping one eye on. But honestly, sometimes there is nothing like a study guide to ruin an otherwise enjoyable book! And we ALL love King Arthur.

Austin's birthday is on Halloween. He surprised me this year by wanting to go to an old cabin up in the mountains that we went to years ago with him. We were fortunate enough to secure a night up there at this time of the year. It is a beautiful, and rare two story cabin, that is completely secluded(no phone, no tv). I will post the link when I get the chance. We are really looking forward to it, although it will be strange sleeping in that quiet log cabin, with only wood stove heat, without Race.

So, have y'all gotten your carving pumpkins yet?

G'night?
Melissa

I'm back!! :)
A passing skunk is no big deal. Try having someone in your neighborhood set out FOOD for them so they can take pictures of the stinky little critters! Seriously, WHO DOES THIS?!?
You guys will have a blast in the cabin! And your boys are big now to help haul wood.
We have a field trip later this month to the Pumpkin Patch with Q's school. Then we usually go again with all of our friends our annual pumpkin carving contest.

Speaking of skunks, can you believe I'm dressing Mattie as a skunk for Halloween? I found the most adorable picture/plan for a skunk costume for a little one. (I always make my little goblin's costumes--I'm a glutton for punishment.) She'll probably grow up to hate me for it, but she'll be cute!! I'll send photos. Will's got to choose between two bugs--I can't find a good enough wolf, alligator, or frog, so we are going with bugs.

The cabin sounds perfect. We so love cabin retreats. Of course, we haven't tried one of those since the children came along.

We cheated on the pumpkin. My mother-in-law gave Will a painted one yesterday. If he'll let me slide, that's gonna be it for this year. (I heard that gasp. I'm making him a costume, for heaven's sake.)

Isn't this cooler weather nice. Sorry for those of you farther south. It'll get there eventually.

Later, Lynette

Riiiiight. Rotten fruit innerds and sharp objects... that's just what I'll set the boys up with on the balcony. LOL. Ok, I'm kidding. I'm not really going to take away Halloween. We are buying costumes this year, though. On the best of years, I'm still stapling, gluing, and scribbling things into place as they head out the door. This year they'd have to go as sacks of potatoes. So, OFF TO THE STORE!

I'm so sorry you had such a rude awakening, and after such a wonderful night's rest that the cool air and the down comforter can bring. Ahhhh. I do love fall.

What a great birthday trip that'll be. Since you can't blog it live, be sure to post pictures!!
